A. The Bible view of God
The God of Christians is all of the following:
- God is and has absolute power (is Almighty) Isaiah 6:3, Rev.4:8-11
- God is beyond human comprehension. (Infinite) Psalm 147:5, Nahum 1:2-7
- God is the only God in existence and tolerates no rivals. Is.45:22, Nah.1:2
- God is for-ever (Immortal) and not visible (invisible) 1 Timothy 1:17
- God is forgiving and keeps promises. Exodus 34:6 – 7
- God is the greatest teacher and is all powerful. Job 36: 22
- God is Holy and King of the living and the dead. Is.6:3. Psalm 37, Matt 8:22-32
- God is the absolute fair Judge (Righteous in Judgement). Psalm7:11
- God is Love. John3:16, 1 John 4:8
- God is the only Creator. Gen.1:1, Gen 1:27, 1 Cor. 8:6, Amos 4:13. Rom 1:19-21. Psalm 19
- God is Faithful and does what is right. Deut. 32:4
Summary The Bible teaches that: God’s existence is a fact,
that His Spirit has revealed Him personally, and Christ is the
link as revealed through the Scriptures and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
B. Unbelievers views
- Atheist belief in the non-existence of God. Psalm 14:1
- Polytheist belief in many gods. 1 Cor. 8:5-6
- Deists believe that there is no vital link between God and man. Acts 17:24-25
- Agnostics believe that God is for ever unknown. Rom. 1:21-31, Eph. 4:17-1teaches that knowledge is superior to faith, there is no supreme God or simpleGospel.
- Pluralism, teaches tolerance with any alternate principle or view.
- Relativism, Teaches everything is relative to this or that. There are no ‘absolutes’.
- Moderism, brakes with traditions and adapts doctrines to Modern thoughts.
- Post-Modernism, Rejects any former doctrine, dogma or practises.
- New Age, is a form of materialistic Hinduism. Eccle1:9-10
- World Faith Movement teaches to have faith in your own faith. Teaches health and wealth in this life.
- El Elah, Elohim: The Strong One. Deut 4:31 (2500 times in the Bible)
- Jehovah: Lord, the Self-existent One. Heb.8:10-13, 2 Cor.1:10, Rev.1:8
- Adonai: Sovereign Lord, Owner and Master. John 13:14, Matt. 23:8-10, 2 Cor. 11 :2
- El Shaddai: The Almighty, the All-sufficient One. Gen. 17:1
- El Elyon: The Most High and Highly Exalted.Gen. 14:18-24, Phil. 2:9
- El Olam: The Everlasting God. Gen. 21:33, John 10:28, Heb. 13:5-6, Ps. 90:2
- I am, the One that IS: Exo. 3 :14, John 6:35. 8:12, 10:9-11
- Jehovah Sabaoth: Battle Commander. Isa. 55:1-6
- Jehovah Jireh: Our Provider. Phil. 4:19, Gen.22:14
- Jehovah Rapha: Our Healer. John 5:6-9, Exo. 15:26
- Jehovah Nissi: Our Victor. 1 Cor. 15:57, Exo. 17:15
- Jehovah Shalom: Our peace. Eph. 2:14, Judges 6:22-24, Heb. 13:20
- Jehovah Ra-ah: Our Shepherd. John 10:11 , Psalm 23:1
- Jehovah Tsidkenu: Our upright Blameless One. (our Righteousness) 1 Cor. 1:30, Jer. 23:6
- Jehovah Shammah: Our Focus/Centre.
(i.e. belonging to the Nature of God)
- Our God is “Omnipotent” = all-powerful, almighty.
- Our God is “Omnipresent” = present everywhere at all times. Psalm 139:7 Jer. 23:23-24, Gen. 21:22, Acts 17:24-28.
- Our God is “Omniscient” = Has all knowledge of all sciences. 1 John 3:20, Psalm 147:5, Psalm 139:1-6, 1 Chron. 28:9, Isa. 46:9-10, 1 Peter 1-2, Eph. 1:9-12
E. Moral attributes of God
(i.e. belonging to character and conduct of God)
- He is Holy (without sin and deserving reverence) Psalm 22:3, Isa. 6:3, 57:15, 1 Peter 1:15, Josh. 24:19.
- He is altogether Loving. John 3:16, 1 John 4:8,16, Matt. 3:17, 17:5, John 14:21-23, Psalm 145:9, Romans 5:6-8, Eph. 2:4-5
- He is Merciful. Prov 28:13, Rom. 9:15-18, Isa. 55:7, 2 Peter 3:9
- He is “Righteous” (a Just Judge in justice)Psalm 145:17, 98:2, 103:6, Romans 3:24-26, 2 Tim. 4:8, Heb. 6:10, 1 John 1:9, Neh. 9:7-8
- He is “Unchangeable” Mal. 3:6, James 1:17, 1 Sam. 15:29
Summary: God can do everything but will do only what His absolute wisdom, holiness and love directs, i.e. cannot punish the same crime twice.
